52docs Week 5 - Water You Going To Sea

This week’s film is by a filmmaker most documentary filmmakers wish they were brave enough or crazy enough to be. What that means is he holds his shots uncomfortably long, imbues every image with impenetrable meaning, and seems to float in a realm of pure artistic exploration.

If you’re not familiar with Victor Kossakovsky this is a perfect opportunity to dive in, on the largest screen you can find.

He has a new film which has been picked up by A24 in the US and is already in cinemas in the UK but let’s catch up with one I missed - Aquarela.

Spoiler alert: Don’t keep reading if you want to watch this film without knowing what sup.steve8 L on Rotten Tomatoes thought about it. I can never unknow his review and now I will be thinking about him and his fellow cinema goers while I watch:

I wanted to like this movie but it is unwatchable and incoherent. 6 people in the theater and no one made it to the end. Watch anything else or stick toothpicks in your eyes, anything but this”.

No! We will still watch it sup.steve8 L! Haven’t you read Victor’s Rules?
