What a week to finish reading the Saul Williams book and delight in the power of Linton Kwesi Johnson’s lyrical flow.
First of all a certain singer discredited gingers and Ipswich Town fans everywhere after “good guy with bad music” Macklemore spoke some words from a stage and revealed how trying not to take sides is really siding with the powerful.
Then the makers of a documentary about the hell that has been created in a certain disputed part of the world received both a 25 minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival and a threat to revoke their citizenship.
Isn’t it reassuring when people speak up, tell the truth, and those in power are enraged?
Isn’t it great when documentaries still have teeth?
It seems ridiculous when things like this are still happening daily but let’s see if there is humour to be found in the darkest of places with our next film in which an Arab filmmaker collaborates with an Israeli comedian. Oy vey.
