52docs / 20 - Life is once, forever

In an earlier life I belonged to a couple of filmmaking groups in NYC that met regularly to critique each other’s work and build community as we all struggled to make films and figure out our path.

Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective remains a vibrant force but the Brooklyn Documentary Club still has a photo of me on its page so perhaps it ran its course.

Back then, Josh Kriegman graciously hosted us all in his apartment. He was working on what became Weiner, the film that launched his career. His co-host was Rachel Elizabeth Seed, a photographer who had just started making a film about her mother.

Now, over a decade later, I’m excited to finally watch the finished piece. The New York Times described it as an “extraordinary, elegiac documentary” and it has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Go Rachel!

A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into this one and I’m expecting a soulful, personal, beautiful film. Let me know how you think it all turned out.
