52docs / 18 - Searching for meaning in chaos together

Are you also wondering how we can go about our daily lives with kids being starved?

Roger Ebert famously described film as an empathy machine, and it’s a quality that connected me to documentary as a curious teenager and underpins my lifelong commitment to this artform - wanting to know about the world we all inhabit, and everything alive on it.

But when so much seems to be turning to shit, and when the moral and ethical framework you thought existed turns out to be a mirage, shouldn’t we just turn off our screens and spend our time taking care of each other?

Or is now when we need stories - of hope, creativity, courage, perseverance, resilience, and love - more than ever?

It is in this spirit that I acknowledge the horror, and invite you to consider the beauty that exists alongside it.

Read this wonderful interview with the director of our next film to uncover the connection to last week’s.

Speak up, and tell the people you love how you feel about them.

You can watch the film - free with ads - on Documentary+ or rent on Amazon.
