52docs / 15 - Attention is sunlight

Last week’s selection reminded me a little of this David Shrigley cartoon. I’m going to watch the whole series, but I’ll understand if you don’t.

From the grand sweep of Ascension and the broad historical narratives of Shifty to moments of quietly profound intimacy between strangers.

This week we walk the wards of Mount Sinai with chaplain Mati, weaving past and future as she offers spiritual care to those slipping across the threshold and those they leave behind.

Like its subjects A Still Small Voice is an exercise in restraint that reveals the power - and sometimes the cost - of true presence.

The film won a directing award at Sundance but any documentary that can convince one of my favourite artists (who has their own very watchable documentary) to allow their work to be used as the poster deserves to be in the lineup.
